30 Afghans Escaped, Again

30 Afghans were escaping from Pekanbaru Rudenim, on second day of Ied, Tuesday (22/9). This is the third time in 2009.
Chief of Law and Human Rights Department Riau Branch, Darwis Achamayu, said that his authority has strengthened the security after this incident. Some guards from Pekanbaru Police have been requested.
He explains that the escape occurred because lack of security guards at night, which is only two persons. Threfore, in temporary five Police will help to secure the rudenim.
At the moment, there are only 34 immigrants left who are majority are
Afghans. Three of them are Thais and a Malaysian.

6 Afghans Jailed in Pattalassang Rudenim

GOWA - At least 6 Afghans were brought to Makassar Rudenim in Pattalassang District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. They were arrested after get raided in Clarion Hotel last Sunday (27/9).
Therefore, at the moment there are 51 immigrants that live in the Rudenim. It consists of 2 Burmese, 10 Vietnams, 2 Pakistani and 37 Afghans (including this 6 new detainee). According to Patriono Imam Santoso, Vice Chief of Makassar Rudenim, this Rudenim is only temporary shelter. The decision of these immigrants’ future is made by IOM and UN. Their living cost are expensed by UN.

Riau’s Rudenim in Tanjungpinang, that will be opened officially on 12 October 2009, at the moment has none full-time workers. Ajat Sudrajat, Head of Law and Human Rights Department in Riau Region, said that some officers from Tanjungpinang Immigration and Prison will be stationed temporarily to the Rudenim.
Ideally the Rudenim needs 50 officers to handle hundreds of Afghans and other countries refugees.
Consequently, Department of Law and Human Rights urges Riau residents to apply the vacant position.
